Our story
Started by a Shotokan student with a suitcase of Toyo uniforms.
Our founder, Katsumi Inoda, was born in 1943 in downtown Tokyo. At 27 he moved to the United States to build a business of his own, training in Shotokan karate in New Orleans while looking for a way to bring quality Japanese products to the American market.
In 1974, he began importing Toyo uniforms and martial arts equipment from Japan. The brand quickly found a following across the Los Angeles basin: Orange County, the San Fernando Valley, and beyond.
Since then we've diversified our sourcing worldwide to keep supplying high-quality karate and judo uniforms to the U.S., Europe, Australia, South America, and back to Japan. Our motto hasn't changed: supplying high-quality uniforms at a very reasonable price.
